Federrico Auricchio: 2022 Youth in Philanthropy Award Winner

We are proud to announce that local high school student Federrico Auricchio is the winner of the 2022 Youth in Philanthropy Award given by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Northeast Wisconsin Chapter! This award is presented to an individual or group of young people (college students or younger) who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, charitable programs, volunteerism, or leadership in philanthropy.

Federrico supports House of Hope by serving on our Board of Directors as a Youth Member. His first fundraising initiative brought in nearly $5,000 in less than 24 hours! We are lucky to have Federrico bringing an additional youth voice to our programs and services.

Watch the video about Federrico or make a donation in honor of Federrico. Congratulations, Federrico!

Youth on the Move

November is National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month, and House of Hope is working with partners throughout northeastern Wisconsin to raise awareness for youth in crisis with Youth on the Move. This month-long event shines a light on the very real needs of homeless youth and provides welcoming spaces for young people in crisis in our community.

In partnership with Home Base at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley, businesses and organizations will put temporary green footprints on their windows to mark their location as a safe space for youth in crisis. The green footprints let youth know their community supports them. Any space with green footprints will allow youth to come in, warm up, use wi-fi, and learn about community resources.

In recognition of Youth on the Move, Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich issued a proclamation declaring November as National Runaway & Homeless Youth Prevention Month!

Proclamation

WHEREAS, November is National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month which began in 2002 and is presented each year by the National Runaway Safeline, the federally designated national communication system for runaway and homeless youth; and

WHEREAS, runaway youth are often expelled from their home, have experienced trauma, struggle to meet their own basic needs, and are at increased danger of falling into high-risk situations, including human trafficking; and

WHEREAS, effective community programming to support runaway and homeless youth will succeed because of partnerships that include youth, families, youth centered organizations, community-based human service agencies, law enforcement, schools, and local businesses; and

WHEREAS, House of Hope in partnership with Home Base at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley and other community businesses and organizations will put temporary green footprints on their windows to mark their location as a safe space for youth in crisis giving them access to a safe place to warm up, use wi-fi, and learn about community resources; and

WHEREAS, According to Voices of Youth Count, 1 in 10 young adults ages 18-25 and 1 in 30 adolescent minors ages 13-17 will experience some form of homeless in a 12-month period. In the 2020-21 school year, 1 in 26 students in Green Bay Area Public Schools experienced homelessness; and

WHEREAS, House of Hope provides a safe and supportive place where young parents and children experiencing homelessness will become confident, independent, and successful members of our community.

Now therefore, I, Eric Genrich, Mayor of the City of Green Bay, do hereby proclaim November 2022, as: “National Runaway & Homeless Youth Prevention Month”

I invite all residents and community partners to support House of Hope to increase awareness, understanding, and support for youth experiencing homelessness.
