Halloween Trunk-or-Treat

House of Hope will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat for our residents on Monday, October 31, from 4-6 pm. Trunk-or-Treat is a convenient alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating. We are seeking 10 volunteers/families/groups to decorate the trunks of their vehicles with family-friendly Halloween decorations and pass out candy to residents at our shelter. We also need donations of Halloween candy and children's Halloween costumes in all sizes.

If you would like to commit to bringing your decorated vehicle to Trunk-or-Treat, please contact Liz at 920-215-4574 or lizk@houseofhopegb.org. Check out these Trunk-or-Treat ideas for inspiration!

Youth on the Move

November is National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month, and House of Hope is working with partners throughout northeastern Wisconsin to raise awareness for youth in crisis with Youth on the Move. This month-long event shines a light on the very real needs of homeless youth and provides welcoming spaces for young people in crisis in our community.

In partnership with Home Base at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley, businesses and organizations will put temporary green footprints on their windows to mark their location as a safe space for youth in crisis. The green footprints let youth know their community supports them. Any space with green footprints will allow youth to come in, warm up, use wi-fi, and learn about community resources.

We would like to invite you to become a Youth on the Move partner. As a partner, you would:

  • Have green footprints placed on the windows of your building for the month of November
  • List your location on the Youth on the Move map
  • Hang flyers/posters that explain Youth on the Move
  • Allow youth to come into your space and hang out (only during your open hours)
  • Give youth a basic needs bag that we provide

Basic needs bags will contain information on how to access resources specifically tailored to youth and a few items that were suggested by youth who serve on the Hope Center Youth Advisory Committee. We are looking for folks to help out by donating some of these items. We would gladly accept items with business names on them.

Youth Basic Needs Bag (please contact us to donate these items)

  • Drawstring Backpacks
  • Bottled Water
  • Individually Packaged Snacks (Cereal, Fruit Snacks, Granola bars)
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Puzzle Books (Crosswords, Sudoku, Word Search)
  • Notebooks/Journals
  • Adult Coloring Books
  • Earbuds/Headphones
  • Lip Balm/Chapstick
  • Hand Lotion
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Gloves and Hats

We also need volunteers to help assemble basic needs bags, deliver flyers/posters and basic needs bags, and place footprints on windows of participating locations.

If you are interested in becoming a Youth on the Move partner, donating items for basic needs bags, or volunteering to help with this initiative, please contact Liz at LizK@houseofhopegb.org. Together, we can make a difference for youth experiencing homelessness in our community.
